VoiceThread Discussion Mode Work Flow

My first work flow is pretty straightforward. I want to ask students a directed discussion question. I want the students to answer the questions right there in the VoiceThread. This is a discussion board on steroids. I have always believed that proximity has always been a problem in learning management systems. The learning content is in one place and the collaboration tools are in another. This is just too clunky. VoiceThread puts everything where in needs to be.

Designing For The Social Web

Many instructional designers I know do not believe or understand that we are designing for the web. I see a lot of online courses that have no logical navigation or work flow. This makes it almost impossible for the student to understand what they are being asked to do and how to do it. Read more…

Instructional Design Requires Good Tech Skills

From time to time I see people on the blogs taking the position that instructional designers don’t need a lot of technical skills. Sorry to burst your bubble but their is a lot of tech in any design job that includes instructional design. If you want proof go to HigherEdJobs.com and check out the job postings for instructional designers or educational design related jobs. They all require major LMS expertise as well as expertise with many types of multimedia software packages like Adobe Captivate and Flash.
